“Stars, keep the watch. When night is dim
One more light the bowl shall brim.
Shining beyond the frosty weather,
Bright as sun and moon together.”
-- People, Look East, Eleanor Farjeon (1881-1965)
As the “holiday season” is engulfed in the rush of traditions and commitments, this weekend, take the opportunity to pause intentionally and consider: How am I? What is drawing my heart and spirit? What is shaping my hopes and prayers for myself, my loved ones, my world this year? Through a rhythm of guided reflection and prayer, lectio divina (sacred reading), contemplative conversation, silence and stillness, we will hold sacred space in which to ponder and nourish your longings for Emmanuel. As a watchful community, we’ll encourage each other to turn eastward to the light that is beckoning each of us on our unique paths towards Christmas. The remaining hours will be unstructured for rest, private reflection and time to engage with the surrounding beauty of late fall on the shoreline. Silence will be maintained outside of group gatherings and during meals from Saturday through Sunday breakfast. You are invited to bring a seasonal ornament, image, book, journal or any other resource that accompanies you during Advent; we’ll place them at the center of our gatherings to bless as well as offer as inspiration to one another.
