Catherine's Suscipe: Prayer of a Social Mystic
Guided Retreat with Mary Pat Garvin, RSM
Saturday, July 3 - Saturday, July 10, 2021
Come Sit Awhile: Catherine McAuley
Sculpture by Gael O'Leary of Sydney, Australia
Catherine McAuley, foundress of the Sisters of Mercy, was a social mystic – a woman whose relationship with Jesus had direct social implications for the people of her day. As followers of Jesus in the tradition of Catherine we too are social mystics -- Sisters of Mercy, Associates and Companions whose relationship with Jesus has direct social implications for those we serve in our various ministries.
During this guided retreat we will explore Catherine’s Suscipe, listening attentively with the “ear of our hearts” to the fresh and encouraging words she wishes to share with us. Renewed and refreshed in Mercy we will go forth to face the issues of our own time with Catherine’s depth of imagination and courage!
- Gathering on the opening evening and 6 mornings for approximately 1 hour
- start time for this gathering is usually 10:00 a.m. (giving retreatants an extended time for prayer in the morning). Breakfast at Mercy by the Sea is served from 8:00 to 8:45 a.m. Coffee and tea is always available in the dining room.
- Gathering late afternoons or evenings for 30-40 min (optional). These are intended for those individuals who wish a time to share the day’s graces and blessings.
- This retreat will be a silent/quiet retreat, thus allowing an atmosphere more conducive to sinking deeply into self, Catherine and God.
