Portals to Prayer: A Day Exploring Ways to Enter Stillness and Openness to God
With Gunilla Norris and Frank Pendola
Saturday, October 24, 2020 | 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
A doorway is a portal, a means to let us into a larger space. Doorways have great value and necessity as thresholds, but nevertheless must be left behind if we are to enter more spaciousness. Our true destination is to reach the sanctuary of stillness and contemplation where God’s Presence and action can transform our hearts and our lives. Toward that, we will use breath, chant, movement, images, journaling, reflective dialogue, as well as simple ways to care for the body to help us enter stillness and open ourselves to God through the contemplative practice of Centering Prayer.
Gunilla Norris is the author of 11 books on the spirituality of the everyday: Being Home, Becoming Bread, Inviting Silence, A Mystic Garden, Simple Ways, Sheltered in the Heart, Match, Embracing the Seasons, Companions on the Way, Great Love in Little Ways, and in 2020, Touched by Blessing. She is a mother and a grandmother. Gunilla has been a psychotherapist in private practice for more than 40 years and has felt privileged to accompany many people on their journeys to growth, healing and spiritual connectedness. Many of Gunilla’s books are available in the Mercy by the Sea Bookstore.
Frank Pendola is a husband, father and grandfather and a lifelong lover of song. He currently serves as Music Minister at St. Vincent de Paul and Our Lady of Victory parishes in Bradford and Ashway, Rhode Island. He has been an active member of The Holy Family community as a student of Centering Prayer and Christian Contemplative Practice and serves on the Servant Leadership team of Contemplative Outreach of Connecticut where he is preparing to become a commissioned presenter.
