Weaving a Nest for Stillness: A Contemplative Retreat Weekend
With Claire Rusowicz and Anne Simpkinson
"But ask the beasts, and they will teach you;
the birds of heaven, and they will tell you;
or the bushes of the earth, and they will teach you;
and the fish of the sea will declare to you.
Who among all these does not know
that the hand of God has done this?
In God's hand is the life of every living thing
and the breath of all."
This contemplative retreat invites you to engage with the Sacred in nature, encounter God as the Creating and Sustaining Spirit of all. It will be a time for rest in body and "rest in the grace of the world." Anchored in Centering Prayer, the weekend will offer scheduled options to participate in terra divina (sacred earth) exercises, a labyrinth walk (weather permitting) and a communal prayer service on Saturday evening. However, there will also be much open time to explore the beach and grounds, read, journal, do artwork or simply enjoy the beauty of Long Island Sound.
No Centering Prayer experience is required. The weekend is for both beginners and long-time practitioners. However, silence will be kept from the closing session on Friday until after the final Centering Prayer session on Sunday.
"When Jesus asked his disciples to 'look at the lilies of the field,'
I think he was asking them to read the book of nature as the book of God. ...
The lilies do not simply reflect God, rather God is being God in the lilies."
- Ilia Delio, Making All Things New
The weekend will begin on Friday, August 16, with dinner at 5:30 p.m. and conclude on Sunday, August 18, at 11 a.m. The cost of the weekend is $360 for a single room with en suite bath and all meals from Friday dinner through Sunday breakfast.
