My Bible, My Prayerbook: A Lenten Look at the Four Gospels
With Patricia Cook, RSM
When Sister Patty Cook was a child, she gave up bubble gum as a way to please God during Lent. Now, as a religious sister for over 65 years, one of her cherished Lenten practices is turning to her Bible to reflect on Jesus' life as told in the four Gospels. She invites others to join her in looking together at the Gospel background and selected stories to explore how Jesus' profound teachings resonate with our Lenten journeys today. This program series is aimed at deepening our relationship with God (as we understand God). Endeavoring to live in the right relationship with ourselves, each other and all of creation is a core value of the Sisters of Mercy.
Gatherings will be held on Friday mornings, from 10:30 a.m. to noon. You can take one or all of the sessions; each costs $15.
The program will focus on the Gospels in this sequence:
Bring your Bible -- any translation is fine -- and a journal or notebook. The sessions will include highlights of each Gospel, reflection, prayer and discussion.
Patricia Cook is a Sister of Mercy, educator, retreat and spiritual director, and a retired prison chaplain. Annually, she serves as a tour host for pilgrimages to the Holy Land. She loves to accompany those who are searching for God's presence in their daily lives.
