Song and Silence: Canto Divina and Centering Prayer

A Contemplative Enrichment Day with Frank Pendola and Gunilla Norris

As in Lectio Divina and Visio Divina, where words and images bring us into silence and contemplation, so does the ancient practice of chant. We will gently sing ourselves into a gathered stillness and into God’s Presence and action in our lives. In a rhythm of chant, Centering Prayer sessions and walking meditations, we will spend a contemplative day by the sea. No special musical ability is needed, only an open and willing heart.

The program will be held on Saturday, October 6, from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The fee of $65 covers both the program and lunch.

Frank Pendola is a husband, father and grandfather and a lifelong lover of song. He currently serves as music minister at St. Vincent de Paul and Our Lady of Victory parishes in Bradford and Ashaway, Rhode Island. He has been an active member of The Holy Family community as a student of Centering Prayer and Christian Contemplative practice and serves on the Servant and Leadership team of Contemplative Outreach of Connecticut, as well as facilitating the Centering Prayer group in his home parish.

Gunilla Norris is the author of nine books on the spirituality of the everyday — Being Home, Becoming Bread, Inviting Silence, A Mystic Garden, Simple Ways, Sheltered in the Heart, Match, Embracing the Seasons and Companions on the Way. She is a mother and a grandmother. She has been a psychotherapist in private practice for more than 40 years and has felt privileged to accompany many people on their journeys to growth and healing.
