Shamanic Painting Workshop
with Catherine Steinberg
Shamanic Painting is a meditative approach to expressing inner images, words, emotions and sensory experiences with paint on canvas. A shamanic journey consists of listening to a specific drumbeat for about 15 minutes and allowing yourself to be led to a dream state and thus become more in touch with your unconscious.
Throughout the day, we will alternate shamanic journeying with longer periods of painting impressions from your journey. Painting from this internal perspective can be liberating and exciting. There will be time for writing and group processing of your journey and painting. No prior experience with painting or shamanic journey work is necessary.
The workshop will be held on October 27 and 28, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Participants can choose to sign up for one or two days. Participation on Sunday is not contingent on Saturday attendance if you have studied with Catherine before.
Cost of one day is $100; two days, $175. The fee includes program and lunch. For materials, you may bring your own painting materials or the presenter will provide them for $10 per person. Please bring payment for the supplies to the workshop.
Before attending the program, Catherine suggests reading Shamanic Journeying by Sandra Ingerman. Please bring a journal, a bandana and wear comfortable clothing. The program is limited to 10 participants, so sign up soon.
Catherine Steinberg is a licensed psychotherapist and artist, who resides in Guilford, Connecticut. She has an ongoing exhibit, The Mary Paintings: Expressions of the Divine Feminine, at Mercy by the Sea. You can watch an interview with Catherine about her shamanic work.
