Persephone in the Underworld: What You Can Learn from a Time of Darkness
A JourneyCircles™ Program with Jan Blencowe
What do you do when you find yourself in a place of darkness in your life? How do you learn, grow — even thrive — when life's circumstances abduct you into the underworld, and the sweet fragrance and sunlight of a summer season is abruptly over. How can you make your descent into that dark time a conscious one and regain control of who you are and how your situation can be used in positive and empowering ways in your life.
While exploring the myth of Persephone, and diving deep into its rich symbolism and themes, you will discover how an underworld experience can be the catalyst for a heroine's journey. You'll find that this journey will teach you much more than just how to endure difficult times; it will lead you through a process of discovering who you are and what inner strengths have been hidden waiting for you to unearth them. When explored through the JourneyCircles™ process an underworld experience can be understood, held and worked with in transformative ways.
The JourneyCircles™ Process is a highly creative, yet very accessible, mixed media art form that guides you in creating personal symbolic imagery, used for discovering and retelling the stories of your life. Discover the depth and power of creating and claiming a positive living language for your stories. Activate healing, wholeness and greater awareness of your life experience. Using found images and other media, you'll be cutting, tearing and gluing to create mixed media collages on beautiful JourneyCircles™ template cards.
A guided meditation, the creative process, narrative voicing and thought-provoking questions guide you in unpacking and understanding your symbolic art. Within a sacred circle, you will have an opportunity to share what you have gained from your art making experience with other women as each of you explore your own heroine's journeys.
While no prior JourneyCircles™ experience is necessary, this is an intermediate level program and participants should be prepared to explore deep and complex themes and be comfortable making collage. All art materials are provided. Participants are asked to bring a small writing journal and pen.
The workshop will be held on Saturday, November 3, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., The $125 fee includes the program, as well as lunch and materials. Register early as registions is limited to 10 participants.
